The Jim McLean Years video. A must-watch for any Dundee United fan young or old. This was when Dundee United used to show the rest of Scotland and Europe how it was done.

Mickey Coyles Bus CIS Cup Final Antics

Drunken high jinks from the Mickey Coyles Dundee United bus at Smiths Hotel in Kirkintilloch before the 2008 CIS Cup Final. Shed Rule!
Celtic fan but grew up at that time and used to love watching Utd in Europe. Incredible team and miss when the standard was this good across the league and we produced world class players.
Looks,kakaka
What a team.. cost nothing and achieved everything.
as a celtic fan of a certain age, I remember utd from the 80s, what they should have achieved, and what they did achieve is there in the books, they were a great team. Ask any young football fan in Scotland have they heard of Alex Ferguson, they know who he is and rightly so, ask them if they have heard of wee Mclean, and they have no idea, football life as in real life is about fine margins at times. Cheers Jim for your great team.
I think they need to plant oil palm trees and cassava on a large scale to produce food. Anyone think it will help them?
From ZRA Strim to here..thanks to Hj Z
Saya pun
Legand
why if they are poor, they make children?
The land is so green why? Why is the land producing ? Did you ask?
I mean why the land is not producing?
What a team that was . Much respect and admiration from a Rangers fan. Brilliant team
i am a Celtic fan but i loved watching United in Europe in the 80s they were magnificent
The motherwell game will forever be etched in my mind!. Great memories of being a kid crammed in behind the goal.
How about the goalie ging up to take the penalty to make it 2-2 back there, eh? That took some balls, didn't it? Imagine what might have happened if the goalie saved it and they got on the break.
1 0f the greatest
God bless Jim ❤.the team you put together was a joy to watch ,and superb ,and if it wasn't for the ref being bribed in the european cup semi final in Rome ,it would if been you against us (Liverpool) in the final
The memories come flooding back, what a team and what a manager, we will not see there like again....thanks for the memories Jim RIP
what a player milne was
I was there at Dens Park with my Dad when United won the League Title in '83! But my favourite "United" moment was when Dave Narey hammered the ball into the Brazil goal during the '82 World Cup in Spain. However, even as a United fan, I have to admit that Aberdeen were the most successful Scottish team in Europe in the '80s (under Alex Ferguson). No surprise that when we had a strong domestic game (not dominated by two teams) and where teams worked to bring their schoolboys/youths through, instead of buying foreign talent, the national team was decent too...
RIP to a legend of the Scottish game. Thanks for the wonderful memories.
Up the Dee!
We Jum was well pissed off that Ivan won cup.
just before Jim became a cab driver
As an English guy most of us normally have a favourite Scottish team, mostly Rangers or Celtic. However I've always been Dundee United, best team in Scotland comes from Dundee as well as the best Indie Band too, "The View". And this comes from an English Man
Significant what a lucky ground DensPark was for Utd. Maybe they should arrange a swap.
Great program. Refreshing to hear some intelligent and candid comments from both speakers!
The 1994 Scottish Cup Final was the best day of my life. When I think of that day I instantly think of my Dad. He had to stand on one of the seats to see the trophy presentation due to his height but like everyone else in the crowd was ecstatic. The final whistle seemed to take an age. That was one of the best Rangers team in their history which we beat. Although 2010 was also fantastic it never came close to 1994. My Dad is no longer alive as he passed away last year but I'm glad to lived to see Dundee United win the Scottish Cup aswell as the League win in 1983.
Let's make it happen - but no link to where we can do that!
This is really pathetic! Please, where's the part 2?
Quality, and loved that away strip 👍
I saw this doc years ago and it's haunted me ever since. I'd like to see Mr. S go BACK and see the people from the first doc. And maybe get HEIFER or other non gov't. help organizations to help that area and improve it. It could be done. I highly recommend this doc. You can buy it on Amazon, but I do hope part 2 is available here, soon. I think if you researched, it would appear somewhere on the internet and for free. Please share it. And thank You Mr. S for your enduring work.
I’m an Englishman who supports Manchester United and we were very lucky to beat Dundee United in the Cwc in 84/85
Some team they had back then. Surprised that they didn’t win more trophies than they actually did they were certainly good enough
Aberdeen we’re too busy winning it all
Still got this on video!
How did Ralph Milne not get capped by scotland? Quality player!
chocolatebicycle great for Dundee United but when he moved to us at Manchester United I don't know what happened to him, maybe it was just too big for him or he couldn't fit in for some reason
@@mrkipling2201 alcohol....
where is part 2????
I KNOW SS did a documentary called "Surving Hunger" which this seems PART of. It is on Amazon to buy
GET BANNON AFF!!!
Thanks for this Samura
Another year of failure for Thompson WATP
james alexander Another year since Rangers died and the Zombies allowed it to happen.
new club won nout zombie...clock is ticking again
Dundee United did brilliantly, especially in Europe in the mid 80s, but I think the pre-Bosman era and players overwhelmingly playing in their own countries meant that there was much more of a level playing field than nowadays. There was no seeding in the European club and no weighting towards the big leagues. Also as only the league champions could enter, you were more likely to face an easier side than now (ie. the winners of the Austrian or Belgian league as opposed to the 3rd or 4th place team in Spain or England. Yes United did brilliantly to get to the semi finals in 1984, but who did they have to beat to meet Roma in the semi finals? Hamrun Spartans, Standard Liege and Rapid Vienna! Not exactly teams to make you quake. Of course they did brilliantly to beat Roma at home, and the pinnacle was to beat Barcelona. But Barcelona were a shockingly poor team at the time.United had in Narey, Sturrock, Malpas et al. a group of really classy players who were loyal to the cause. The Souness revolution at Rangers ended all of that. Subsequently top players would only be loyal to the old firm teams. Eventually the top Scottish players would be moving south before they could be loyal to anyone.
St den I
St den sad to see what Scottish football has become
@@mrkipling2201 - but it’s the same for all the smaller leagues though, not just Scotland. Scotland has a normal football league, actually punches above its weight to be honest
@@hmu05366 true, although it is nowhere near the level it was in the 80’s.
@@mrkipling2201 - but all leagues- even the very top leagues like the Italian one- have peaks and troughs. Our league is no worse than the irish, Belgian, Norwegian, Croatian, Swedish, Finnish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Hungarian or danish leagues! I never understand why English people always snobbishly slag off other countries football leagues - particularly Scotland’s. We know it’s crap, but it’s not any worse than those listed above
Bit behind us tho,A,deen
Always
What is wrong with your face ?
Used to be able to recite this word for word as a kid! Always remember thinking the Lord Provost at 2 min 05 was a bonny speaker!
